Short Biography
Prof. Fernando Rangel de Sousa received the B.Eng. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Campina Grande, in 1996 and 2000, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from the École d’Ingénieurs TELECOM Paris, France, in 2004. From 1996 through 2000 he worked in industry, in consumer electronics companies such as Sharp and Whirpool. In 2005 he worked at Federal University of Santa Catarina as a visiting professor. From 2006 to 2009 he was with Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, where was the head of the Microelectronics and Embedded Systems Laboratory . Now he is with Federal University of Santa Catarina, heading a research laboratory focused in RF applications.
He was visiting researcher at Telecom Paristech in 2011/2012 and at the University of Manchester in 2015/2016. Along the years he has served as ad-hoc consultant for federal science & technology funding agencies such as CNPq and he has consulted for several private and public companies, providing specialized courses and technical and commercial viability studies in the RF field.
Prof. Rangel is member of the Circuits and Systems for Communications IEEE/CAS Technical Committee, member of the IEEE/I2MTC TC-13, IEEE Senior Member and chair of the IMS/COMMSOC/CAS South-Brazil IEEE Chapter.
He was counselor of the Brazilian Society of Microelectronics (SBMICRO) (2012-2015, 2019-2021) and he was the coordinator of the integrated circuit design activities in the INCT NAMITEC. He also has served as reviewer for several specialized conferences and journals.
He currently coordinates the project BRAFITEC/CAPES “FUTURE: Formação de Engenheiros de Alto Nível Atuando como Cidadãos Preparados para um Mundo Sustentável“.
His main research interests are related to RF Electronics, RFIC Design, Wireless Power Transfer and Wireless Instrumentation Electronics.
